Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
Considered by many to be mentally retarded, a brilliant, impatient fifth-grader with cerebral palsy discovers a technological device that will allow her to speak for the first time.
This is an AMAZING book! It gives the reader an entirely different outlook on people with disabilities. Melody is an amazing young woman who will capture your heart. I laughed at her witty humor and cried at the disappointments she faced. This is a must read! - Mrs. Romig (4th Grade Teacher at PFE)
"Thoughts need words. Words need a voice." This is such an important book. It makes you look at your world in an entirely new way. Melody is an amazing person who explains her disability (cerebal palsy) as something that limits her body, but not her mind. I really wish every student would read it. ****
I loved this book because ive always wanted to find out how people with disabliteds thought about going to the Doc and having to need aids to help them.
I liked this book because I learned that just because you are in a wheelchair does not mean that your brain does not work. Melody was a very smart girl like all the other kids in 5th grade.
I could relate to this book because there is a girl at my church who is like Melody and is in a pink wheelchair! I was thinking of her the whole time I was reading! It really brought me closer to her! ***** I just HAVE to give an extra star!!!!
I absolutily loved this book !!!!! it was awesome and entertaining to read but the sad part made me tear up a little bit. I rate this book **** this book is amazing i definatily recommend it to everyone
Oh my gosh, this book was so freaking amazing. I absolutely feel like, after reading the entire book, that I am inside this world with Melody. I feel sorry for her and poor Penny. This tells you that no matter how different you are, it's okay. This book was so hard to put down. I finished it in 2 hours flat. This was AWESOME!!! **** (+1)
I loved that this book shows that just because kids may look different doesn't mean that their brain is different.I was horrified when penny was run over and happy when melody could actualy talk with her electronic divice.****
this book was so good it was very emotional melondy is 11 and she cant speak she is very smart and she has friends she tries her best to do whats right but when she tries her mom gets mad because she kicks and screams. when melondy tried to worn her mom that her little sister penny was behind her car her mom got mad at melondy but she ran over penny she almost died but she didnt die i started cring because of that.i rate this book **** stars
I Loved That Medi-Talker It Made Me feel Happy For Her. I Wonder What Kund Of Computer Rose Got I Hope It Was An Apple Laptop I Would Like That. Alot ***************************************************************************************************************************************************
I loved the book. It was a little mix of happiness/sadness/love to me. It really made me feel different and how some people treat other people that are different. ****
this book was amazing i could barley handle myself if i couldnt walk or talk it was very discriptive and very good and it was worth 1 million stars ****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
I loved this book! I loved it because she was so good at handling herself. If I couldn't walk or talk, I would have tornado spasms every 5 seconds! Melody is SO amazing!
Melody Brooks is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. She is different. But aside the fact her arms and legs are hopeless of ever being used, her thumbs were born with no flaws. Although I am incapable of feeding my own self at age 11, I have a brain beyond the wonders of the galaxy. Even though I am surounded by words I cannot use them. A brain at waste? I think not. She shows her talent in the Whiz kid quizes. She finally gets to express her true colors when she gets her dream computer. I read this in two nights not including days. Everyone should be forced to read this amazing book. I will definitely be voting this as my COMPLETE number one Bluebonnet Book EVER! *****
It's about a girl how has problems in here life and she can't speak. Then she tries to do a math thing with normal kids and gets all questions right. then the bad stuff starts to happen! Read it and see what happens next! *******************

ReplyDeleteThis book taught me that people with disabilities can be smarter than those that don't have disabilities. You should not judge people by their looks.
